The company says it's working on patches for Creative Suite 5. x versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. Previously, customers would have had to pay to upgrade to CS6 to get the fixes.
After telling customers they would have to upgrade to Creative Suite 6 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash Professional to fix critical security flaws, Adobe has backtracked and is preparing to patch them for free ( ZDNet UK - Security Threats )
Adobe has changed course and will now backport the fixes to existing software versions.
Adobe is to issue free security patches for Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash Professional--the company's high-profile Creative Suite applications. The U-turn reverses an attempt to force users to pay for a CS6 upgrade in order to rectify the problems. The security vulnerabilities affected both Mac and Windows platforms.
The vulnerabilities in Photoshop could be exploited via opening malicious TIFF image files, Adobe said.
Serious security vulnerabilities have been discovered in Adobe Photoshop, as well as in its companion applications Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Flash Professional.
What if a user does not need or cannot justify paying for the new features in a product upgrade that includes a security fix? That user is a sitting duck to malware attacks.
