What is a web template?

What is GoLive?
GoLive is a HTML editor from Adobe. Its latest version is appended with a "CS2", as it is now integrated with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite. One of its main competitors is Macromedia Dreamweaver, which has a larger market share. However, after Adobe announced its merger with Macromedia in April 2005, GoLive is expected to be phased out, with Dreamweaver as its imminent replacement.
Dreamweaver is an HTML editing software that was developed by Macromedia for professional web designers. However, the productivity and ease of its WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) design platform, plus the control of its HTML code editing mode, have made it possible for even non-experts to create and edit webpages and sites.
At present, Dreamweaver holds about 80 percent market share among professional HTML editors. Its latest release is the Dreamweaver 8 version. In addition to support for Mac and Windows, Dreamweaver can also be used on Unix-like systems via emulation software.
Should I use a GoLive web template?
As of the Adobe-Macromedia merger, we’d probably advise you to opt for a Dreamweaver template over a GoLive template. You may find yourself unable to edit your GoLive template in the future in the event that it is indeed phased out. What’s more, Dreamweaver is already the most widely used HTML editing platform. Dreamweaver web templates abound on line, and some of them are even free!

Frontpage templates fill simple needs. Frontpage is perhaps the simplest and most widely available platform for website design, since it comes with the Microsoft Office suite. With Frontpage, users can see what their homepages would look online immediately due to its WYSIWYG interface. More advanced web designers however find Frontpage too simple for executing more complex designs.
Full site templates fill your need for speed. Most ready-made web templates include a design only for one webpage. Since websites typically have many pages, many rushed designers resort to full site templates. These have all the necessary website elements and supplementary pages. All one has to do is fill in the content. There are many full site templates that are specifically designed for use with either Dreamweaver or Frontpage, and may be edited or customized using these platforms.
